Hmm....Saturday has pretty much already faded from my brain. I'm getting old. I do remember some good canter work where we did some little circles and her hindquarters actually got engaged for several strides. I do remember an instant in the boogeyman corner, where she tensed up and WAITED, for something from me, or something in the corner, and she was a coiled spring, and I thought, "Oh horse, you are insanely athletic" because I'm pretty sure she could have done any number of amazing acrobatic manuevers right at that instant- but she, thankfully, did not. Prior to that she decided she was gonna get the hello outta dodge, so we had a brief conversation with the wall and changed her mind. It's been quite a while since she's said "Screw you, I'm blowing through the bridle" but I guess they all still want to test the boundaries from time to time. After that we did more canter work and I'm pretty sure she was stretching and through in her back...
Sunday we went outside, and it was nice enough that after 5 minutes on her back I was roasting in my coat. She started out seeming kind of tired from Saturday, but soon got spooky and a little hot. She spooked at a dog, a man working on the engine of his truck, a large wooden spindle that's been there the entire time she's been at the barn, a piece of paper blowing in the corner. She did giraffe-neck and fakey passage and I pretty much wanted to kill her. However, attempted murder (unless successful) is not exactly condusive to relaxation so instead I tried some leg. Nope, still mincing steps and giraffe neck, only now they are HIGHER mincing steps. Finally found my seat and that seemed to help a bit- so mental note- when she's being an ass- look to mine. ^_^
Eventually we got some fairly decent working trot- sitting. Posting she just wiggled all over the place and ducked and bobbed. Sitting I got "plugged in" and made a pretty decent job of keeping the rhythm and connection. We did a little canter work which wasn't super but it was stretching a bit into the bridle and not completely out of control. And we did some good walk here and there till she got ancy and jiggy... I guess this is the cloud to compliment the silver lining... :)
Also... my legs HURT.
