Jun. 16th, 2008 07:48 amSo trainer said she had a dream that I came to her and said "I had this clinic with a woman named Kathleen, she says Trudi and I are ready for 3rd level!" She took it as a good omen. ^_^
However, our lesson was not entirely stellar- did some cool but difficult lateral work at the trot- shoulder in to travers to renvers to leg yield. We weren't fab but better than usual - most of the lateral work is still hard for Trudi. Trot lengthenings were good. After that we tried some canter and it was heavy and on the forehand, then rushing. Trainer tried having us do more canter to see if Trudi would settle, but she just went into gallop mode and FLEW down the longsides, and would throw her haunches to the outside and occasionally pop a change. I was trying to step to the inside, but she would actually throw me to the outside when she flung her body around. She blew through half halts, hung on the inside rein, and when I gave the inside rein she would straighten a little but go faster again. Totally ignored me and she was basically a pig-headed jerk.
Eventually trainer gave up on this and we did some little walk circles/it's MY rein/Hi I'm booting your butt over, so quit ignoring my leg - and then a little bit more trot/canter/trot work on a circle. The canter was better but Trudi was still trying to go off into Trudi land instead of hanging with me on earth. Kinda frustrating but sometimes you have to see where they're at- mentally she's still not up for a lot of continuous canter work- we have to break it up with trot and walk or she builds up too much steam.
Physically I apparantly still have no core strength- guess I'd better start working on that again- I feel it each time after I ride but apparantly it's not enough. What I wouldn't give for an extra 10 - 20 hours of free time each week....
