Oct. 3rd, 2012 01:49 pmRode last night, and this riding horse into the outside rein without using the inside rein really sucks. :) It works mostly to the right, but to the left she wants to just bend right. We have lots of fights about this. We continue to try and do it anyway.
In happier news the left lead canter has been feeling very good since we started working on giving the inside rein. In sadder news the right lead canter is throwing me all over the damn place and chafing the hell out of my behind. I think maybe I fixed it a little - I was trying to figure out why it was such a mess, and it seemed like the left hind was doing something that pulled me off to the left as we went around a corner- so I tried doing sort of a shoulder in right and then tried to really keep the left hind from shooting off to the outside and bring it in and under instead, and that felt better.
Sitting trot work left is also still somewhat hellish, partly from again trying to let go of the inside rein and get the bend with my leg and body (body DOES NOT WANT), fix the contortion of my body TRYING to get her to yield and bend on the inside, and get some contact and throughness on the outside.
I think her gaits may be improving as a result of all this, however I'm really not 100% sure I can ride them when they get as big as they can get no matter how through she is or how fit I get (but I also don't yet know where free and expressive ends and careening around huge because it's less work than bending the hind legs begins). Something to ponder and discuss with trainer. If a tree falls in the forest and you can't ride it, does it do you a damn bit of good?
Big accomplishment for the day is getting a flu shot. I figured since I slept last night without taking any drugs that that counts as not sick, in spite of what might end up in a kleenex, and now my arm hurts. I was thinking they should give out stickers, like "I voted" and have them say "I got shot".
