Sometimes my horse can still surprise the heck outta me. It's been snowing at night again (Thank you, schizophrenic Colorado weather) so it was breezy and a little cold when I went out to the barn. I rode outside and thought Trudi would probably be hyper and spooky.
She was really, really good. I couldn't believe how good she was. We did the constant bending on the straightaway and I felt like her hind end was engaged and it felt like I was getting her into both reins. I could start to see how we can eventually make this very subtle and how I'll eventually be able to get her through on either rein very quickly with very small aids. She got through early on and was very good in her back, good in the bridle, listening, and relaxed. A bird flew in front of her and she didn't blink. Later on another bird landed on the rail just a foot in front of her face, then flew off, and she didn't care at all. I guess she's pretty used to birds since they are always nesting in her shed, but I was still impressed. If only she could get used to every other object she could possibly encounter in the world... :)
I wasn't half bad either. Had some trouble when she got a little too quick at the trot because I couldn't sit it, but once we got the tempo slowed a little and she was through it was good. I was thinking about "wearing my corset" and my core was good, I was also trying to be concious of my hips and push the inside one down, and it really helped. I felt like I was sitting nicely in the saddle and Trudi appreciated it. She was very cute when I groomed her after we finished, all *nuzzle nuzzle I totally luv u*.

Too much drama on equestrian. But if you want to flist me, I'd flist you back. I love reading about people's riding journeys. I write about more than just that but much is horse focused.

Sure, you can friend me if you like. I agree that equestrian can get very dramatic. I typically just read dressage blogs- is that mainly what you write about?

I'm studying (or trying to study) dressage. I've had a very hard time finding trainers. Finally found one I adored, but her husband is ill and she's been off. But yes, my Hano is confirmed at 2nd, schools 3rd. I'm trying to get my mare to TL. And me...I'm a relatively newbie to dressage but am obsessed with it. Do you hang out on UDBB at all?

Yay for Trudi! Bravery can be a hard thing to come by ;D

Trainer and I were just discussing this past weekend the strange coincidence that many of the young mares we've had in for training have been CRAZY spooky in our indoor, yet perfectly fine outside. WTF? And Trainer's wife's young mare was one of them. Every day for nearly 2 years straight, she spooked at the same spot in our indoor; yet K took her to USDF Symposium, in a huge arena, in front of hundreds of spectators, and Cinny was like an old pro. What strange creatures they are!

I know it- sometimes it seems totally random as to what sets them off. Like she has been very good at clinics for the most part, and other days she's home and its all ZOMG WHATZ THAT!
How's Wally? You mentioned something about 3 legs being poulticed?

I rarely (meaning almost never) post on COTH. My main board is UDBB. I'm luxuria over there. Do you post there much? Who are you there?
