Lunge lesson yesterday- soooo nice. Trudi was like "OMG" at first when I started swinging my arms around- but after some petting on her neck and haunches she was like "I LUV lunge lessons". Trainer had me change how I was sitting so that my legs actually hung down below me, ala not-the-chair-seat, and suddenly sitting up just happened- no struggle for posture, alignment, or tipping back-n-forth. Trudi's rhythm got a lot steadier because I wasn't getting forward or behind the motion. However it did seem like my crotch might want a bit more room or a slightly different alignment in the saddle, and the seat seems to want to tip me back a bit too much when I am actually vertical, so I will be trying out some other saddles and researching the saddle shopping process a bit... I told my husband "I might need a new saddle," and he actually yelled "AAAARRRRGHH!!!".
Still bounced far too much but at least now I feel like my legs can drape and be UNDER me- so it's a start and it makes me feel better that something has been wrong and it's not just me being lazy and/or out of shape. I still have to do a lot of work to do on my seat, but in a different way.

There are days when I wish someone would invent the magical saddle that automatically conforms to both yours and the horse's bodies perfectly and instantly. I swear every time someone needs to get a new one it's such a saga/pain in the arse to find that perfect one. Though I suppose everything else in dressage is so difficult, it seems, why should finding a saddle be any different? ;)

YES. Difficult, and expensive. Let's not forget that everything in dressage is also expensive. ;)

Yay for longe lessons! It's so awesome that Trudi likes being a longe horse, too. Wally is very good on the longeline, is very obedient to voice commands, etc., but when I'm riding him on the longeline, he's a bit too...enthusiastic?...for me to really work on my seat. Bah humbug.

Good luck with the saddle search. Saw your post on equestrian. Can't help you with the saddle fitters, cuz I only know of saddle fitters who work with/for a specific company. However, I do know that companies like Custom Saddlery do sell used and demo saddles, and they'll have their saddlefitters re-fit it for you. You could give them a call. I know you've ridden in one of theirs and didn't like it, but I know from experience that I LOVE one of their models, while the others don't excite me at all. So, worth a try?

Yes, it occurred to me that even though I didn't like that particular custom saddle, they probably have OTHER models in different STYLES. Duh. I'm so blonde sometimes. I just thought it was one type of seat and then the saddle was just customized to the horse and only customized to the rider by size.
