Oct. 27th, 2008 09:38 amTrudi was an utter dork on Saturday. Windy day, lots of stuff going on outside the arena- I worked her Thursday but it didn't matter- Trainer saw her spook and take off for a few strides with me and was like "Uh, do you want to turn her loose and let her run around?" I did, and she did, though she would not go more than halfway to the other end of the arena- too scary. She galloped and spooked and sailed over a little 6" crosspole, and nearly took out another standard and trainer as well- honestly passing by only inches away. I was like "Um yeah, I'll be keeping this lunge whip handy..."
Got on and had a wretched lesson- just walk/trot/stand here for a minute and don't turn your head thaaaatway....
Rode Sunday and it was colder but slightly less windy. Trudi was much better, able to trot nicely in circles where she dared not venture the day before- still a snot at the canter in spooky spots, but then we jumped a bit and she seemed a little braver (or at least more focused on something worthwhile). Just the little 6" crosspoles, but it was quite fun when she actually jumped (if you don't give her leg to tell her to jump, she just plows straight through and scatters poles everywhere...sigh). We trotted some and cantered some, and she had a lovely approach in the canter- calm and forward and smooth- sadly I still suck and have no eye "Ok I guess that's about 3 strides..." 3 strides later... "Whoops ok it's actually at least 4 and whoa that's a long spot we're taking off from...." Poor Trudi. She'd be awesome with someone who can actually see a distance, she would like you to just put her where she needs to be and tell her when she needs to jump. But we had fun anyway. ^_^
