So I wrote Peggy last night and told her I thought I'd buy the mare in Canada. I came across her about a month ago while "just looking" and the price was right. "Hmm..." I thought. "Maybe I should think seriously about buying a horse again." Time passed and ads were perused and questions were asked, photos and videos were sent. Message boards were posted to, replies were recieved, and I kept comparing all the horses to this one. I didn't want to buy her because she's pregnant, and what do I want with a foal? Nothing. Do I want to miss riding most of the summer waiting for a baby to be born and then waiting for it to grow into a weanling, then try to sell it? No. Do I want to buy a horse from CANADA? No. And yet, I e-mailed the owners today and told them I want to buy their horse. Since I kept using her as a standard and kept comparing other horses to her and deciding they didn't measure up, I finally concluded I should just buy her and be done with it.
She's 16.3, which is good-- I saw a lot of beautiful but 15.2 hand youngsters. She's 5 years old, dam's a Hannoverian, sire's an Oldenburg. Liver chestnut. I don't really like liver chestnuts, but at least it's not roan or appaloosa. She has a star, snip, and 3 white stockings. Again, I'd prefer a blaze and 4 whites, or 2 in the front, or 2 in the back, but at least it's not one in front and one behind- I hate that. Haven't seen her walk, haven't seen her canter. Lines have jumpers more prominant than dressage, though there's a bit of dressage a litle ways back. So I don't sound that enthusiastic yet, right?
It's her trot. That lovely, ground covering, hangs-in-the-air for a second, "warmblood trot" (TM). And here are a couple of pictures of her:

And, in other news... Fontana was good again on wednesday night- we did a little bit of canter both ways, and her left was better than the last time. I like her a whole lot, and I'm sure she'll make suffering through Brava's unrideable phase much easier, not to mention her 17.2 hand self will make Brava seem quite a reasonable size.
