duck duck duck...goose...
Dec. 11th, 2006 01:52 pmI'm trying to make arrangments for shipping and a prepurchase exam in Canada. As I suspected, the shipping is the tough one. I want her here by Christmas because I have some time off and I want to get her started under saddle.
Good lesson with Fontana on Saturday- she popped up in the air a bit and cantered a few strides which caught everyone's attention- but it didn't bother me because I knew she was just very stiff- she was stiff on the lunge too, and there was no way around it except to work through it. I didn't get mad or even reprimand her, just ignored it. Later on though she started to get a bit tired and did it again, and I popped her with the whip because this felt more volountary. She got pissed at that and bucked a little again, and I popped her again and got mad back. "You wanna fight?" I said, ready to go. "Bring it." Obviously I've forgotten about her being 17.2. Peggy fortunately remembered, and she broke us up, telling me to just move on. A wise decision--it's a long way to fall. I still love Fontana, she still works hard and I think as horses go she's pretty trustworthy. I had a couple of pictures taken of us so that my parents could see her- I didn't realize till I saw them that my heels don't reach her belly and that there's a lot of horse in front of and behind me- she doesn't feel long at all when I'm riding her.
Peggy made us some pretty saddle covers for Christmas. Mine's green with a silvery and gold plaid and gold tassels. I like it. Hoping my saddle arrives this week and I can use my new cover on it.
Got some new photos of Naida and Wally- it's amazing to see the difference a couple of months have made. I compared his clinic photos with these and his frame is several inches higher. Peggy called her a "Dressage Queen" which made me laugh so hard I thought I'd ruptured something. It seems our brainwashing techniques are having an effect as she seems to be getting more and more into dressage.
Got a couple pictures of Rubinesque but I didn't get to see him work much as a new girl had trailered in for a lesson and needed a little help getting her horse somewhere where she could tack him up. He was wearing orange polka dot excercise bandages on the front, and zebra patterned ones on the back. To top it all off he had a grubby tail-sock. I died a little inside when I saw him, and I only hoped Peggy wouldn't have a stroke. She actually took it pretty well, but I thought I noticed a bit of involountary twitching.
Anyway, Sue wants to do a site for Rubinesque and asked if I'd help. I said "Sure." I'm thinking I'll see if I can't barter some riding time on him in exchange for work on the site. To paraphrase Charlie and the Chocolate factory- "There's plenty of money in the world, but there's only x number of FEI level schoolmasters". I need a schoolmaster to teach me the stuff I want to teach my own horse.
