Lean on me
Mar. 14th, 2007 08:14 amSo went to work Trudi again last night. Brought a bucket to stand on and leaned across her back. She kept turning her head to look at me like "Did you mean to do that?". I brushed her sides and patted her while I was there, and she relaxed to the point where she started eating hay and drinking water. I consider that success. She isn't THAT tall, but she's tall enough that I still can't get all my weight on her from that height. But she's probably not quite ready for that yet anyway, so it's ok.
Saddled her up again and tightened the girth a little more. Again, nose comes around to the gith and her expression says "Um, excuse me, did you really mean to do that?". I petted her face, pushed her nose out of the way, and finished doing up the buckle. Went to put on her boots, and having not put boots on before, was mortified to realize I don't know how they go. I know the top from the bottom, and the brushing pad goes on the inside, but didn't know which way the straps were supposed to go. I think I know how they are supposed to go, and it probably doesn't matter that much, but I'm going to look at a picture to verify it before I put them on. Dang I feel sheepish.
Worked her on the lunge line again- she was super to the left, but to the right she has trouble walking off and she kept trying to duck and keep her left side to me when I would try to approach her right side. She was really mortified when I smacked her for ducking, but she eventually figured out standing still while I walked around to her right side was the appropriate response. She forgot a couple of times after that but I made the "Ack!" (Don't you dare) sound and she would stop in her tracks. She has a bit of 'Bull-in-a-china-shop' syndrome. It doesn't help the my left hand is nowhere near as good with the whip as my right- (I am right handed). Making progress though, and that's all I can really ask for.
