So Nadia came over today and met Trudi, and after I worked her on the lunge (she was very good today, both directions) I climbed on and she led Trudi around for me.  I was a little surprised at how scared I felt all hunkered down and hanging on to mane and bucking strap while she led us at a walk.  I couldn't really see anything betwen facing the ground and the brim of my helmet, and I've always taken for granted a horse's ability to carry me.  I could feel Trudi trying to figure out how to balance beneath me, the careful placement of her feet, the shifting of her body, the movement of her head and neck.  But she was good, as Nadia pointed out, she wasn't really worried about me, she just wanted to spook at something outside.  I sat up slowly and we walked some more, stopped, started, changed directions.  Trudi was very quiet and good except for one spook- she jumped up in the air and almost landed on Nadia, but Nadia is used to Wally (also 4) and she was fine.  I was not expecting it and so I stayed with her perfectly- nice to have a positive reflex kick in once in a while.  ^_^
After our workout Trudi got her vaccinations, then a shot of sedative for her teeth.  It began working immediately- her eyelids started to close and her head got all droopy.  Lin pulled her wolf tooth which she didn't really like, although she didn't mind it nearly as much as I would have thought  (I wished my dentist had been as good at extracting my tooth).  He floated the remaining teeth and she was all done.  I patted her and told her she was a good girl, and Lin remarked "You're supposed to praise the vet."
"Good Lin," I said, "Would you like a carrot?"
