So Trudi's had a few days off, during which she's apparantly forgotten how to pick up her feet. *Tug* *Shove* *Pinch* *Tug*. She finally picked up her front foot and then started to KNEEL with the other legs- I got outta the way before she laid down on me, so she got back up. She has also forgotten how to lunge on the lunge line. I put the bridle on and put on side reins for the first time. I put them on the first hole so they were all loose, attached the lunge line to the bridle, and found we were back to her stopping and facing me instead of walking off.
*Sigh*
After about 20 minutes I had her pretty consistantly walking off to the left, after several nostril-flaring-head-jerking-up-yanking-back-pivoting tantrums. You would think I beat her on a regular basis (I don't- it's semi regular). I keep trying to remind myself that she is so very green, and that she is not really trying to be naughty, but it can be hard to tell sometimes and I want her to respect me. Sometimes when I did get her moving off, she would break to trot and I wasn't quick enough to go with her- as soon as she hit the end of the line (not all that hard, but still) she would stop and face me again and act offended. I did get my butt in gear though and start jogging after her so that she had no reason not to go forward. It was a good reminder that you have to be quick with young/green horses.
I took the lunge line off and free lunged her after I got her walking off well several times, and she was very good, though still nervous. At one point she decided to lollygag in the corner near the barn aisle and I cracked the whip. She shifted her weight to her hind legs, went up into a levade, pivoted, then did a courbette into a canter - but it was fairly slow- not like a regular spook. It was a little frightening and awesome all at the same time. We ended up with me climbing up on the saddle again, and at least she remembered that and was still cool with it.
