Welcome back, Porter
Oct. 9th, 2007 09:09 pmMy horse is the best. ^_^
Trudi didn't seem overly enthusiastic to see me, but she sucked down the apple I brought her pretty quick. I had to actually snatch it back out of her mouth (no, I don't advise this) to keep her from swallowing the thing whole- note to self: divide apple into small pieces PRIOR to offering it to horse.
She wasn't as muddy or as fuzzy as I thought she would be- it didn't take long to groom her and put her boots on. I turned her loose in the indoor in case she felt like kicking up her heels, but actually she started out stiff and slow. I had her trot and canter a few laps each way till she loosened up and then tacked her up.
I climbed on and went "Oh God, my legs...!" They were all stiff and stuck, and I was like, "How the heck did I ever ride just once a week?". But eventually I loosened up too. I wanted to do a light workout since we've had a pretty long break, and I worked on really trying to get Trudi to stretch, big time, and not much else. Eventually she did reach out, all the way to the buckle, and we did walk-trot transitions that way. Her trot was really good, surprisingly good. She offered canter both directions and it was super. We did some more trot work and to the left she was really using her back. I was very relaxed and sitting lightly in the saddle and letting her motion carry my posting- it was easy and felt fantastic. Trudi was great in the bridle- steady and maintaining good contact without pulling at all. I felt like she could do a bit more so I started asking for even more swing in her back and she was like "Thank God, I so needed to stretch out! Now watch me work." She was like a model strutting on a catwalk. I made a big deal out of her and gave her a little break, then we went to the right. She wasn't bad at all but she wasn't as brilliant- when I asked for MORE she didn't really step up, and she felt a little tired, but she was still doing a good job. We worked a bit longer and when I brought her to a walk again I could feel her muscles tremble slightly so I think it was fatigue. I'm totally thrilled though- that was some really excellent work and overall it felt effortless-- and I think we both really enjoyed it.
