The oldest trick in the book
Dec. 10th, 2007 09:00 amSo Sunday was pretty good- Trudi was again a bit spazzy at the start- I'm thinking at this point it must be a combination of the weather, her getting fit, and her just feeling jazzed and zany and maybe a little nervous when we go for a ride. Again though- overall pretty good. We dealt with the rocket trot by trotting straight down a side to halt at the wall. Next side, trot down, halt at the wall. Repeat. After 6 halts she was like, "Soft, non rushing trot- got it." I do use the walls a lot- but what a useful tool. You can't pull on it, you can't blow through it, you can't argue with it. So when I say slow down, or stop, and the horse says "no" then the wall will invariably say "yes".
Canter was super. Nuff said.
We did some more leg yield right from the quarterline to the track, and she actually moved her butt over and stepped across. Yay for Trudi. She got carrots for that, which are her favorite treat. Sugar's easier, but she loves carrots most, so hopefully they will help her remember that leg yield right is fun.
I wormed her the other day with a new brand of ivermectin- nuvet or something was the name of the company- anyway, their wormer is apple flavored, and she sucked it right down. DID NOT SPILL/SPIT OUT ANY. I couldn't believe it. I've always used zimmectrin before and she HATES that- I'll have to pick up some more of this stuff....
In other news, finally picked up "The Complete Training of Horse and Rider" and started reading it. I'm about 1/4th done. It pretty much sounds very familiar, but it's nice to get reminded of things again. Nothing in there so far makes me go "wait, huh?" Seems like a very good book.
