Mar. 8th, 2008 11:46 pmHad a lesson today- had some really good stuff, like some great canter (transitions were to DIE for) and a couple super awesome halts. Trudi was a challenge because there were a lot of distractions to spook at- the tractor RIGHT outside the door, a couple horses in the barn freaking out neighing and stuff because a buddy got taken away, etc.
Trudi had trouble coming through, mainly because of her nervousness I think, but trainer seemed pleased and we covered some good stuff- like making my legs hang doooooown, even when she's shying. When she shies away from the boogeyman corner for example (really bad today because she can glimpse a little of the commotion going on) I try to drive her into the corner with my leg, which means I try to push hard, which contracts my leg and pulls it up, which also pulls my seat out of the saddle. Also, she tends to slow down there too which I always kind of forget because I'm busy thinking about pushing her over, not pushing her forward. So I have to do 3 or 4 things- 1. keep from losing the inside shoulder (once that pops out it's over) so wiggle my inside rein 2. keep my leg long (so hard!!!) I can bump with it but am forbidden from trying to push her with it 3. keep her forward in the same rhythm and 4. possibly tap with my whip to help my loooooooong leg.
