Hubby made dinner last night. He insisted I stay and eat with the family before going out to the barn- dinner was nice but I wanted to run through a test outside while it was still light out. Trudi was all "yayayayaya" bouncing off the walls/hyper/prancy/spooky. It took a while before I could even do some trot warmup, and the sun went down, so our canter warmup took place while we ran through TR1 (more or less- I didn't have the letters set out but it was mostly the right pattern). It was pretty bad- lopsided circles, Trudi hyperventillating- but we did get through it, so that was actually cool- to see that even when she's nutty we might be able to still get through, ugly as it may be. We ended up cantering down centerline and doing a nice halt- (too bad it's supposed to be a trot). We did one more TR3, and it was a little better - she was still way more forward, but I dropped the reins now and again to give her a pat and she listened and kept a better grip. Our last canter was toward the far end where the giant fox I've seen once before ran across the arena. Trudi didn't spook so after that halt we were DONE. :)
After that I went after her with a toothy grooming tool. Trudi has finally begun to shed in earnest. I got enough hair to build a goat. Sadly, her winter coat is such that she will need to shed an entire herd of goats to get to her summer coat, but still, this is cause for celebration.
