May. 14th, 2008 08:25 amSunday's lesson was very good- the best warmup we've ever had. I normally would have called it a day after just the warmup- it was just spectacular. Completely through, using her back, stretching, supple, obedient, and just spectacular at walk, trot, and canter. But, it was time to work on me, so trainer took away my reins, clipped on the sidereins and lunge line, and away we went. I wish I could say I was stellar, but I was not. However, I wasn't the absolute worst - my position is getting better, but I still haven't really found my balance. There's still a lot of bouncing and me not sitting in the saddle and going with the horse. It's frustrating that after working so long to learn to sit the trot, and getting it, that now I have to learn to do it all over again. :P I found my center/balance for about 2 strides and lost it again. I am pretty sure I can get it back, I just have to be patient.
Trudi was star lunge-pony. I worry a little because it's scary not to have reins on a horse that spooks regularly- I know she won't go anywhere but I feel like I can contain the spook a bit better with the reins.
At first she didn't really listen to my seat when I asked her to slow down- she went "LALALALA" and was really jazzed when we cantered - she did a fast trot after and broke into canter again a few times, but she didn't hollow or spook. Going the other way it was better (to the right) - we actually managed to do some canter-to trot, and trot lengthening-to working trot-to walk transitions. Going faster/bigger is always easy, coming back is HARD. Actually, it turned out to be a very good workout for Trudi too- she kept her back up and was forward and through the entire time- she was very sweaty when we finished and rather proud of herself.
Of course the next day I caught my son's stomach bug and couldn't get out of bed for a day and a half. Still recovering from that. :P
