Jun. 2nd, 2008 09:17 amPretty good ride last night- rode inside because someone had their horse turned out in the outdoor, but at least it was cool inside too. Worked on sideways stuff- "Hey horse, I told you to move over, so MOVE OVER". Trudi wasn't thrilled about it, but it was really good for us. She was very forward and offered medium trot in the warmup, which I thought might help her blow off steam, but she just got more psyched so we went back to the walk and then slower stretchier trot, which she didn't like as much but did pretty well. We did a lot of canter work and we're starting to work on being able to move sideways at the canter too. I've been fairly lax on her lateral education and it's time to demand more from her. We finally did a leg yield at canter into the spooky corner and I called it quits there. The cooldown was actually really beneficial because I was getting her nicely into my outside rein and keeping her there- it's interesting because I used to do circles and be like, "It's so hard to use the outside rein on a circle" and then last night I was like "It's so much easier to put the horse into the outside rein on a circle". We did some 10 m circles where her whole body was working- nothing was falling in or out, everything was working to keep her aligned. I finally realized how under utilized the outside half of my body has been - I think the lunge work made that click for me. Bent was telling me to keep my hand on the same side of her body, and I couldn't really figure out why I was bringing it over- now I think it's that it wasn't really doing anything over on its side. ^_^
And lastly, some cellphotos- eww, sweaty pony. But check out 'er muscles.
Ho hum, I guess I'm kinda tired.
Or am I a rockstar?
