Bad carma.

Was in a car crash this morning- I had the green and was going 45 when I saw a car cutting across my path- I tried to stop, hit him, and veered off to the right where the traffic light post stopped my car for me. I'm ok- the other guy had some cuts on his head but was ok- his car was drivable, mine is not...
Thankfully there was a witness- the police came and gave the other driver a ticket for careless driving.

I know.... if you have to have bad luck, at least it is good to have the best of the worst.
For your car- did you go through your insurance company, or the at fault party's?

I went through my company and they said they would handle everything with his (so far, so good). But my friend who got badly rear-ended in the fall did have to talk to the at-fault party's company. So -- I would check with your file handler and see what your company does?

They gave me the choice- pay $200 deductible and they would try to recover that with other damages from the other comapany, or go to the other company and file a claim.

I would file with the other carrier. When liability is that clear it is usually an easy process and they will generally be pretty accommodating, especially if you mention you might have a stiff neck ;)

Otherwise - I am SO glad you are unhurt, pretty amazing given the state of your poor car.

I had my brand new (to me) car totaled for me by a drunk driver in 2000. She was uninsured, of course. Then the tow truck driver stole all my CDs out of my car (not proven, but pretty sure that's what happened since I don't know who else had access between the accident scene and the tow yard).

Oh, I forgot you were the insurance whiz! Thank you, I may ask you some questions at some point.
The guy actually called me to apologize, and his insurance company called me. So I will try to go through them, and my understanding is that since I reported it to my company I still have the option of paying the deductible and claiming on my collision if his company doesn't come through. So far the other company seems like they will be ok to work with- but we will see what happens. Thanks again for the advice!
