Stock ties.  A strip of plain white cotton fabric runs about $20 - $30.  I am not joking.  I bought my kid a pair of shorts today- they cost me $8.  EIGHT DOLLARS.  For PANTS.  They have about 5x as much cotton fabric as the stock tie, and they are plaid.  (FYI, white cotton doesn't even NEED dye.  COTTON IS NATURALLY WHITE).  They have a button and a zipper and an elastic waist.  And yes, they were BRAND NEW.  The cost of material for a stock tie is about $1.35.  I don't think there is actually all that much labor seeing as how you only have to sew along the edge.  Were I a less crappy seamstress, I would make one myself.  I may still try just out of sheer annoyance.

If you have one you like, or a pattern, I'll make you some. I am very good with a sewing machine. Also you'd get to choose your fabric: handkerchief linen, silk, or basic high thread count cotton. Or one of each.

Thanks! I actually ended up taking a stab at it and I think it turned out all right (discovered that pressing fabric is important- hooray for learning). I will probably do another slightly longer one to be able to go twice around the neck as this one, at 48 inches, is not long enough for that- but anyway, here's a picture (dirty collar underneath is my show shirt - shame on me for not washing it after the last show). :)
