Inside again last night- we worked HARD. Trudi's left canter transitions were outstanding, and the canter itself was great too. The transitions to the right were poor- I think she was sore (not lame, just muscle sore) because she actually put her ears back and swished her tail when I asked, and got crooked and swung her haunches sideways. She is not the type of horse to give me attitude- not in that way. She can be silly and stubborn, but when she resists or fights it's out of fear or ignorance, anticipation, fatigue or confusion- she is not one to pick a fight or try to dominate, and she's not lazy. The odd thing was that the canter was really good once she picked it up- though she stumbled and broke a couple of times- I touched her with the whip for not paying attention to her feet and for breaking. It startled her, because till now I've pretty much let that stuff go, but I think she's a big girl now and she can canter a couple of laps without tripping or stopping before I ask her to.
We had some good trot work and some crappy- I'm paying more attention to when I lose her back and that little dip appears just in front of her withers- she'll keep her frame but that's when I lose her (I feel it of course, but I don't know if I saw it in any other horse before). We also walked some squares, and to the left she did a couple teeny tiny hint-of-a-walk-pirouette steps- the right there was nothing. :P Oh well. She was looking really fit and strong and solid last night as I was grooming and untacking her- her coat's got a little shine in spite of the fuzziness.
