Rode again this weekend- poor Trudi is not thriving on a more intermittant schedule, and neither am I. Saturday was bugaboo-in-the-corner day again, *sigh*. Not a bad workout overall though. Sunday we heard that the outdoor was in good shape, so since it was sunny and somewhat warm (near 40) we went outside. The footing was a bit rough for her taste though, she tripped a lot although that was more due to her going "Ohmygodwhatsthat" and basically being a psycho. She had tons and tons and TONS of suspension, which was quite fun when she actually used the power for good, but mostly she just wanted to pepe le pew and go straight up in the air instead of bringing her legs under herself. When she did actually engage her hindquarters the gait was huge and quite exhilarating. But I'd have traded it for sanity....
The most amusing part was when my husband brought my son by - he's petted her before, but she was totally freaked out to see him walking on his own instead of being carried.
"Pet!" he said, "Kitty!". :)

hehe I have this image of Trudi passaging around with her tail over her back like an Arab...is that about accurate?

We had a bizarre warm spell here for over a week - it was in the 50s and one day even in the low 60s. On Saturday the temp dropped all day long, and ALL the horses were completely insane. In every possible way. Wally wouldn't even let me catch him in the paddock!

You know, I never thought to look at her tail (since I was on her) but it wouldn't have surprised me! She only did the fakey passage thing once, but she did lots of very silly up and down trot that didn't cover much ground- there wasn't any hind end or roundness or flexing in the hocks so it wasn't anything like passage-- just pogo-ing up and down.
When she did actually engage and get a little throughness in a somewhat fast but very forward trot though, it was like OH HOLY CRAP SUSPENSION AND IMPULSION HOLD ON FOR TAKEOFF.... I tried to let her go a little to let her do SOMETHING right. If I could have slowed the tempo just a little it would have been the most amazing medium trot ever- but she was just too tense to let go and get completely through. But it's always so strange to feel how much more power they have which you sort of forget about when they're working in their normal way.

Actually, "fakey passage thing" is what we call it, too! Wally does it when he gets excited, or when he's trotting through water or newly-plowed cornfield. :D

:D I think any non-dressage riders would just call it "prancing". :D
