Oct. 15th, 2007 08:32 amIt was very cold and rainy yesterday. I could actually see my breath now and again. I went to get Trudi and she saw me from her shed, whinnied, and refused to come to the gate. I trudged through the mud, slipped and about fell on my butt, and put her halter on. To be fair she was cold - her coat is coming in, but it's not very long yet. She was a bit wet but not that dirty except for her legs. Her back was cold and sore though so I groomed it first and put the pad and sheepskin on and then the saddle after I gave her a few minutes to get warm.
Riding she was kind of a jerk- she was frisky and loud, neighing at another horse in the barn. Eventually we got it together and she gave me some super canter work- she was together in a nice frame, balanced and kept the contact. I hopped off after we finished up to the left and led her around a bit with the girth loosened, but decided I didn't feel like walking around on my own two feet till she was cool-- so I led her back to the mounting block. Trudi went "No way, we're done." Tried to walk off. I stopped her. She backed up. After about 5 minutes and a good smack on the ass with the whip for backing up, I was back in the saddle. We walked around till she was cool and it was no big deal.
Goofy horses.
