Oct. 18th, 2007 10:50 amLast night's theme was "conditioning". Both Trudi and I had a real workout. I'm trying to put all the parts of the horse together and keep them there more consistantly. For a while it was "get the hind" then "keep the connection on the bit" and then "get the back swinging". Now I'm trying to get all three AT THE SAME TIME. "Whoa crap, that's hard!" Trudi and I both said. It seems we only keep it all together for a few moments at a time, but at least I feel like I am starting to learn how to do it. At one point we were getting it, losing it, getting it, and ALMOST keeping it- and I realized that I AM the weakest link. My core wasn't strong enough to bridge everything together and this really annoyed me. Sorry horse, I'll get there.
We cantered lots and I really think Trudi is getting stronger.Of course getting strong enough isn't going to cut it, we also have to get smooth, balanced, graceful, and accurate. :P
We had many strides of "Yes ma'am, I'm sitting UP" where I sat well, I halfhalted during the moment of suspension, and Trudi took it and rebalanced beautifully. My cues for the right lead were atrocious- for some reason I was really struggling as I sometimes do, where I just seem to lose my feel and my body feels confused, I have no timing, and it's totally me and not the horse. Trudi came through for me though and we did some good work to the right in spite of my crappy transition cues. On the plus side, at some point I somehow started sitting REALLY well, and my shoulders were back as I sat tall and straight, and it was something I was already doing when I realized it- it wasn't concious or difficult.
We pushed our limits and Trudi was pretty tired when we finished. I rubbed her back and legs and went home thinking I was going to heat something for dinner, watch TV, do a load of laundry...
I took a hot bath and realized my back was sore- the muscles along the sides, (not my spine or lower back--a nice change). My butt HURT, like I'd gotten a shot in each cheek with a long needle. I got out of the tub and the last of my energy evaporated. I had cold cereal, skipped the TV, and to hell with the stupid laundry. ^_^
